June 2026 — Utqiagvik, Alaska — OptimERA xG and Quintillion successfully deployed Starlink bonded gateways, leveraging the world’s most advanced high-capacity transit solution to strengthen connectivity resilience in one of the most remote and environmentally challenging regions in the world.
The bonded gateways are designed to maintain critical communications during primary network disruptions. Engineered to integrate directly into Quintillion’s local network infrastructure, the system enables rapid activation and continuity of service when primary connectivity is compromised.

Utqiagvik, the northernmost community in the U.S., faces unique environmental challenges due to the harsh climate of the Arctic and is vulnerable to communication disruptions due to its reliance on a single-homed subsea fiber route. When outages occur, the impact extends beyond internet access—affecting emergency services, healthcare systems, financial transactions, and day-to-day communications. With sea ice taking up to six months to melt, this also impacts efforts to repair and restore service.
If traffic must be diverted from the subsea fiber over to the Starlink network, the bonded gateway routes the traffic to thousands of Starlink satellites in low-Earth orbit where space lasers take the most efficient route to re-establish connectivity.
This deployment builds on the first bonded gateway installed in Unalaska in 2023 through collaboration between OptimERA xG and Starlink, establishing a model for bonded gateways in high-risk regions where traditional redundancy is limited or cost-prohibitive.

Through its collaboration with Starlink and work in support of Quintillion’s network, OptimERA xG continues to expand the role of low-latency connectivity as a reliable secondary path for communities where maintaining continuous connectivity is critical.
This project reinforces a simple principle: connectivity should not fail when it’s needed most.
